Two things to read carefully before you trust any row. First, charged-word accounting is not uniform: Wibble documents that it meters input words and StealthGPT documents that it charges input plus output — so StealthGPT's real per-document cost runs higher than the $0.20 sticker suggests — while HIX Bypass, Phrasly, and Undetectable AI do not document their billing basis at all, so treat any per-word total for them as an estimate that assumes input-word metering. Second, everything here is drawn from each vendor's own public docs as of July 2026 and changes often — re-check the vendor's pricing page and API reference before you commit, especially the per-request word cap, which several vendors bury or leave undocumented.

How to Evaluate an AI Humanizer API

Structural rewriting is multi-pass work that takes real time, so the job model matters more than it looks. For steady, predictable monthly volume, the cheapest documented per-word rate wins and a subscription is fine. For bursty agency or batch workloads, watch two traps: a monthly floor you pay through the quiet months (Phrasly's $100), and any allowance that resets before you use it — though not every vendor expires credits, so check the terms rather than assume. The "unlimited" plans, meanwhile, tend to move the cap to a per-request limit you then have to engineer around. Run the arithmetic on your real workload shape, and confirm the API is included in the tier you are pricing. Pricing changes often; verify on each vendor's own page.

Rate limits shape scale as much as price does, but they are not a single throughput figure you can divide your volume by. Documented ceilings come in two different, non-interchangeable shapes — a cap on requests per unit time, and, separately, a cap on words per unit time — and the two interact with your average request size, per-job latency, and how many jobs you run at once. The honest answer first: raw token costs for "rewrite this to sound more human" through a frontier model are cheap — likely cheaper per word than most of the humanizer APIs compared here, though we did not price every vendor on the market. If humanization is the core of your product, building your own pipeline may genuinely be the right call.

What the per-token math hides is everything you now own:

  • The detector arms race. Detectors keep shipping capability aimed at paraphrased and humanized text — Turnitin's AI writing detection has flagged AI-paraphrased text since December 2023, and July 2024 introduced a dedicated reporting and highlighting category for it (a documented capability, not a claim about their models or training data); it shipped dedicated bypasser detection in 2025 and updated its detection again in 2026.
